I Can Do It

Pain, suffering, tears, heartache...

I could go on and on with this list and mention  about a million different reasons to give up on life, give up on someone or even give up on yourself. I mean each and every one of us have a breaking point right? But what makes us fighters is the will power to move forward, move through it all.

Now where does that will power cone from? If we believe it's something worth fighting for, that will power will come naturally, and if it doesn't maybe you need a new perspective. Try looking at the situation from another person's point of view.

Most importantly you need to believe in yourself and be able to push through the boundaries you set for yourself.

"Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny" - C.S Lewis

Destruction

A volcano is slowly simmering, bubbling and starting to heat up. Suddenly it erupts with hot lava, destroying everything in it's path ...

The volcano is now calm and the destruction is done, the once clean, clear, barren land is now covered with red hot bubbling lava.

The lava has cooled, the lands beginning to look normal but if you look closely the very same land has now turned into hard, cold stone ...

Forming this hard surface took time, effort and strength but the land has finally healed.
A sudden eruption occurs and the bubbling hot molten lava is sadly burning and destroy everything in it's path once again ...

But over time the stone will harden again and all the  scratched and damaged will become seen but guess what? There's soil around that stone...

The little bit of soil is now slowly beginning to sprout, becoming something, shaping itself into luscious green grass, some sweet smelling pink roses, growing right from under the destruction...

The barren land can now give life, happiness, belonging and maybe even some brightness to another.

"From my rotting body, flowers shall grow and I am in them and that is eternity." - Edvard Munch

Overthinking

So it's almost the end of January and I've been thinking and thinking about what to write. My first thought was "hmmmm what about something to do with new year resolutions?", but then I thought it's too late in January to write that. So I sat down and scribbled idea's on a paper and finally it came to me, Overthinking ... I've been doing it for the last hour (well actually my whole life) and it seems to be a fitting topic.

So the definition of overthinking is to think about something too much or for too long. Now to me that's kind of strange because how do you know when you've thought enough? What is the limit of thinking? How long should you think? When does it fall into the category of overthinking?

Overthinking is very common amongst us all and we tend to do it very often, most of the time without even noticing we're doing it. Have you been in a situation where you take a picture and you like it so you decide to post it on instagram, but suddenly you feel the need to look at the picture 100 times, edit the small mark off your forehead, make sure your double chin isn't too visible, then you think about the hashtags you're going to use (because obviously that's just as important to get as many likes possible). So why do we do it? Why do we care about what other people think?

Society today has put so much pressure on us to fit in that everything we do we tend to overthink it. We are constantly waiting for someone's affirmation before making any decisions in our own life, by allowing overthinking to rule your life, do you think you will ever truly be happy with yourself?

I leave you with this "Overthinking is a dream killer. Sometimes you can drown yourself in your own thoughts" - Steve Maraboli

Confident Me

Self acception is one of the hardest battels we go through in life. Everyone has insecurities and there will always be a time where they bother you no matter how self accepting you are of yourself.

The worst thing to do to yourself is criticize yourself, I always tell people " Never put yourself down because people around you will think it's okay to do it as well". Self criticism is something that becomes a habit. If you do something wrong and hate yourself for it you will find that all your energy will be put towards hating yourself or making yourself feel bad about it for a long time which in turn will cause a domino effect and you will notice you hating yourself for every little thing you do wrong. Did you know, when you let yourself down you tend to stop trusting yourself and stop believing in yourself and that creates an obstacle in everyday life.

So the obvious question is how do I start accepting myself and become a more confident person? Well it's actually very easy, just start by not making big promises to yourself like promising yourself that you will loose 10kg's by the end of the month (when you know it's holidays and you going to be eating junk food and lazing around) or you promise yourself that you'll get 90% on the next math test when you got 60% last term (even though you studied a week before the test and go for tuition everyday), another thing to do is every morning look into the mirror and say this "I accept myself, I love myself, I forgive myself for the mistakes I've done and I will learn from them in future" and eventually you will start believing what you're saying, you'll start accepting yourself, being more confident and becoming truly happy with yourself. Remember don't wait for the world around you to give you permission to be yourself, just accept yourself and happiness will accept you.

"Practice accepting yourself just as you are. Then you will know what love is" - Paul Ferini

Happy Holidays

It's the holidays!
Happy Holidays to all my readers, hope you had a lovely thanksgiving and I hope you have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year :-)

So because it's the holidays I thought I'd talk about how I generally get overwhelmed when being around too many people for a long period of time. Firstly no I don't hate people (well generally) and no I'm not a strange weird being who sits in dark places and reflects on life and the choices I've made (although that sounds like a pretty awesome idea) but lets get back to the actual topic...

When I'm around a lot of people for a long period of time I get overwhelmed and a lot of the time snappy and irritable with the people around me so what I do (or try my best to do) is stop what I'm doing and breath (my brother and sister make fun of me all the time about doing this but it helps sooo judge away), I count to 10 and walk away from everyone to my room because it's quiet and I can be alone. I would like to admit that yes I'm an introvert (A term introduced by the psychologist Carl Jung to describe a person whose motives and actions are directed inward. Introverts tend to be preoccupied with their own thoughts and feelings and minimize their contact with other people.) and need time to myself to sort of "recharge", I normally chill in my room, read a book, listen to music or go on social media, oh and I also write blogs now #de-stress&unwind.  After that long process (which takes a few hours or a whole day for me) I normally feel better and can socialize again but an alternative method would be to go to sleep and when you get up you'll feel refreshed (but not me because I'm not really a morning person so I feel refreshed only after an hour of waking up but that's a topic for another blog)

Well anyway I hope this post helps you be more cheerful this holiday season or just helps you feel better when you feel overwhelmed, on that note I'll leave you with this quote
"No family is perfect, we argue, we fight, we even stop talking to each other at times. But in the end, family is family. The love will always be there" - Unknown

Once Upon A Time

And they lived happily ever after ... how often have we wished that could happen to us?
What is a "Happily Ever After"? And how can I get one?

What if I tell you that you haven't experienced just one Happily Ever After but many many more ...

If you think about a fairly tale it always starts off when things are difficult and the ending is happy because the hardship is over. How many hardships have you as an individual gone through? I'm sure there's a few right? So what rule says that the happily ever after comes at The End? What if you just don't know where The End is and where the new Once Upon A Time is?

When you finished school and wrote that last exam in Matric it was The End of your school life but a new beginning to another stage in life ...

What I'm trying to say is that Yes it is possible to have a Happily Ever After but YOU just need to know where to say The End in order to get it. Life is full of Happily Ever After its up to you to know which one you prefer and which one you feel should be part of a better ending to your story of Life.

Enjoy your story and remember we might be part of someone's chapter but not actually part of their story, we might be the mistake they need to learn from or the best mistake they ever made, no matter what happens let's smile through this crazy story called Life.
